About Me
Hello, my name is Staci Lawson.
I was born and raised in Denver Colorado. I married in 1995. My husband and I have lived in Indiana since 1999. We have 5 beautiful children, (4 sons, and a daughter). I have personally had 2 beautiful home births and 3 successful hospital births.
I am a student with Ancient Art Midwifery Institute. It is an excellent program and I am looking forward to graduating. I am also proficient in infant/child/adult CPR. I will be getting certified again asap, as well as becoming certified in neonatal resuscitation. I have been attending home and hospital births since 2004.
I attend births as a doula, birth assistant, and student midwife, I am studying/apprenticing to become a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), I will attend births within 100 miles of my home.
I believe that birth is a healthy, natural life event and that when left alone to find their own rhythm, women will give birth with power and dignity...without the use of harmful interventions.
What is a "doula"?
A doula is a trained and experienced woman who provides continuous physical, emotional and informational support to a woman before, during and after childbirth. The support of a doula can decrease the length of labor by 25%, the use of vacuum/forceps by 40%, pitocin use by 40%, narcotics by 30%, the use of epidurals by 60% and lowering Cesarean sections by 50%.
What is a Certifed Professional Midwife (CPM)?
A CPM is a direct-entry midwifery practitioner who has met all the certification standards set by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). What distinguishes a CPM from other nationally certified midwives is that CPMs primarily attend to out-of-hospital births and are trained via a competency-based model of education. NARM recognizes competency-based education as the optimal model for educating maternity care providers practicing in out-of-hospital settings because it is the only model that requires clinical experience in out-of-hospital settings, continuity of care, and risk assessment skills, which are required to determine when referral, collaboration or consultation with a physician is necessary.
